Best Laptop for GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition That’s official. Rockstar Games is bringing us back to the sweet old times of Claude, Tommy Vercetti and Carl Johnson.

Some of you might disagree with me on this one, but Grand Theft Auto 3 was the best one in the series. Well, at least from the point of view of a gamer who came into adulthood in the 2000s. Before it came out, open-world games were few and far between. And those that existed were only as big as a couple of city blocks. That is why the introduction of a mind blowing, two whole cities containing map was a revelation. It was a sheer pleasure to discover its beauty and interact with its diverse inhabitants on your own terms and your own pace – be it a furious car chase or a meandering walk through a town with a camera in hand. That said, Grand Thef Auto 3 is going to be remastered for it’s 20th anniversary just this year! And yes, you’re right, it’s not only GTA 3, it’s all three of them! Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will contain the pioneer third-person open world game – Grand Theft Auto 3, the 80s nostalgia dripping Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, and the iconic, whole-state-wide gangsters’ paradise – Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas.

The only sad part is Rockstar itself being unbeliavable mysterious about what exactly is being remastered. Therefore, at this time we can only rely on rumors and so said leaks from all the wide internet. But let’s be optimistic and try to make our best bet on answering the importand question – what gear will you need to join the party. And this time we are specifically talking about the laptops. Without further ado – let’s find the best laptop for GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition!

Requirements for a Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition laptop

Major Graphics card recommendations

gta vice city definitive graphics

I’ve organized my recommendations into three categories, with the bare minimums being the cheapest options. Even for the more budget-conscious gamers, I would honestly never recommend using integrated graphics. When it comes to gaming, GPU is definitely not something you wanna cheap out too much on. Of course, not everyone necessarily needs a graphic processing starship, but at least a lower-end dedicated GPU is a must for a decent gaming experience. That said, I wouldn’t go with anything lower than GTX 1650.

For those who are willing to spend a little more for better performance, I have two cards in mind – GTX 1660 Ti and RTX 3050. These should get you somewhere close to 60 FPS on medium settings at 1080p.

Finally, I want to talk about the best graphics cards for playing GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. To put it bluntly, if you want to get confortable on highest settings and you want your system to be able to run more recent games, you’ll need to invest in a bit pricier video card. For example, GTX 3060 or one generation older RTX 2070 should deliver an excellent performance with higher FPS rates on highest settings at 1080p.

TL;DR
  • Minimum requirement is GTX 1650
  • GTX 1660 Ti and RTX 3050 are good options for medium settings at 1080p
  • GTX 3060 or RTX 2070 is great choice for highest settings at 1080p

Major The right memory for The GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition

computer ram

When it comes to RAM memory, GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition RAM requirements are very close to almost all the other recent games.

Minimum (8 GB)

8GB is the minimum amount of RAM you should consider for this game. GTA: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is not too demanding on other specs, so you could get away with 8GB, but that will restrict you to just one or two tabs in Chrome or 4-5 programs open in the background. This is not what we call an enjoyable experience!

Recommended (16 GB)

For a nice experience, I’d recommend 16GB of RAM. This will be enough for some future-proofing and will ensure that your computer doesn’t lag when running multiple programs or tabs in Chrome.

Best (32 GB)

If you’re looking for top-of-the-line performance and want to future-proof your purchase – go for 32GB of RAM. This will ensure that your PC never slows down when it comes to running multiple programs or tabs in Chrome at the same time.

Major Processor recommendations

laptop cpu

If you’re a seasoned gamer, then I’m sure you know that processor is one of the most important specifications for a fluent experience. But don’t worry neither way, I’ll do my best explaining what you need without all the nitty-gritty details.

Requirements

GTA: TDE requires at least an AMD Ryzen 3 3250U CPU. This is just the minimum requirement to play the game at 1080p with graphics settings set somewhere at the lower end. However, if you want to enjoy GTA: TDE on medium settings or above (1600×900 resolution), then I recommend at least AMD Ryzen 7 4700U.

On the other hand, if you want to go even beyond that – something at the level of i7-10750h or Ryzen 7 4800H will help you to get the best performance.

Recommendations

To make things easier for you, I’ve made a list of recommended CPUs based on what type of display/graphics settings you are playing GTA: TDE on:

  • AMD Ryzen 3 3250U or equivalent Intel model is the minimum requirement to play the game at 1080p with graphics settings set to medium
  • Ryzen 7 4700U – playing GTA: TDE on 1080p screen with medium graphics settings
  • Ryzen 7 4800H – playing GTA: TDE on higher resolution screen with high graphics settings
TL;DR
  • AMD Ryzen 3 3250U or equivalent Intel model is the minimum requirement to play the game at 1080p with graphics settings set to medium
  • AMD Ryzen 7 4700H or equivalent Intel model is the recommended CPU for playing GTA: TDE on higher resolution screen with higher graphics settings
  • AMD Ryzen 7 4800H or equivalent Intel model should bring you the smoothest experience with high settings

Optional requirements for a Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition laptop

Optional What storage do you need?

gta definitive map

The bundle of three GTA games together requires 45GB of your storage. That is not something you should be surprised of. Better textures take space and you’ll have to deal with it.

So we’ll just dive right in. The first question that comes to mind is: What storage do I need?

Some gamers would argue that even 256 GB is enough. And they’re not wrong – with that amount of space, you could store the game on the laptop’s hard drive and play it off-line. But if you want to be able to download anything else on top of that, you’ll have to go for at least 512 GB SSD.

So don’t hesitate – get yourself a 1 TB SSD. They are getting cheaper by the day.

If you’ve got cash to spare, go for 2 TB or more – they are affordable these days as well, and the size will never disappoint you in any way.

TL;DR
  • Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition takes 45GB of storage
  • Get at least 512 GB SSD if you want to be able to download anything else on top of that, and get 2 TB+ if you have cash to spare.
