Best Laptop for Madden NFL 22 in 2022

Madden NFL 22 Madden NFL 22 was one of the last EA games on PC to be released without requiring an internet connection to play. For that, it still retains [a strong following of loyalists](a reddit thread on the state of madden 19 on pc). They’re often times so devoted to the franchise that [they stick with PC releases despite owning newer consoles and having access to more advanced gameplay mechanics](a forbes article on why people still play madden on pc). Now, if you’re here because you’re one of those players or because you’d like to get one, let’s find the best gaming laptops for Madden NFL 22 together.

And just so we’re on the same page – this is a football game. If you know little about American football, I’m not here to teach you everything there is to know about it. This means that we won’t be getting into details such as proper play calling or franchise mode perks/downsides. Instead, we’ll be focusing on hardware requirements and options available on the market right now. Are we ready? Let’s get it done!

Requirements for a Madden NFL 22 laptop

Major Processor

I’ll start with an important disclaimer: if you’re thinking about a laptop without dedicated graphics, then you should choose a CPU which has a decent integrated GPU. That might not be that easy as CPU model names are confusing to say the least. Newer generation Intel models your laptop needs to have a CPU with a GPU better than Intel UHD 620 integrated graphics. Otherwise, you’ll be limited to 720p resolutions and 30 FPS on low settings – which will look ugly on any display with less than 60Hz refresh rate.

Requirements and Recommendations

As mentioned before, Madden NFL 22 is not particularly demanding. If you’re looking for a budget gaming laptop – just get one with at least Intel Core i3-1115G4 or AMD Ryzen 3 2200U. If you want to use it as a workstation or just need high FPS on medium settings – pick an Intel Core i5-10300H or AMD Ryzen 5 2500U. And if you want the absolute best possible performance – choose Intel Core i7-1165G7 or AMD Ryzen 7 2700U (or equivalent).

TL;DR

What are my recommendations? Well, given your needs and budget, I’d suggest one of these models:

  • i3-1115G4 – bare minimum processor; recommended for gamers who don’t care about graphics quality too much
  • i5-10300H – for 1080p resolution at medium settings (with less than 60Hz refresh rate) * I recommend this if you plan to use your laptop as a workstation as well; because of the high price tag, this is best for workstation users who can afford it*
  • i7-1165G7 – perfect for 4K resolution at high FPS (over 120fps)

Major Graphics card

Madden NFL 22 is not as demanding as other games, but you’ll need at least low-end dedicated graphics card to avoid hiccups. To make it easy for you, I’ve separated my recommendations into 3 categories – bare minimum, recommend, and the best graphics cards for playing Madden NFL 22.

Minimum graphics (under $1000)

There are only two options here – integrated graphics or low-end dedicated GPUs. The latter comes with two subcategories – AMD and Nvidia. Integrated graphics is the cheapest option but also the slowest one by far. Expect 50 FPS in Low settings with any recent integrated GPU on the market. I should also mention that replays and other clips in the game will most likely lag, but if you have patience for that, the gameplay itself should be acceptable. Another option – low end dedicated graphics card like GTX 1650. Laptops containing this GPU belongs in the same price bracket, but almost all the them will be classified as gaming laptops. Cheap gaming laptops tend to be not too reliable, have some gamer-ish design and just not look too solid in general. Of course, if you plan on playing other games – you should definitely go with at least lowest end dedicated graphics as games like Madden NFL is exceptionaly undemanding compared with other modern games – be sure, they won’t be that forgiving on your hardware.

Recommended graphics ($1000 – $2000)

At this price range, we have the first decent offerings for playing Madden NFL 22. GTX 1660 Ti manages to deliver smooth gameplay and replays at high settings on Full HD or even higher resolution. For this price bracket, RTX 2060 can’t be beat either. I could also mention RX 5700 but it would take quite a lot of time before it gets close to Nvidia’s RTX 2060 performance-wise. You’ll be better off waiting until next year for AMD Radeon 7 line-up if you want better performance now.

At this point, I must make an important distinction between framerate and frame time – which you can measure using FRAPS software. Framerate is how many frames are rendered per second whereas frame time measures how long each frame takes to render in milliseconds (ms). These two metrics are often mentioned together because they are related – if framerate stays the same but frame time goes up then you’re getting less fluid gameplay and vice versa (frame time stays the same but framerate goes down). More about framerates and frame times in a future article!

Best graphics ($2500+)

The top end of GPUs comes in two varieties: mid-range and high-end options such as RTX 3070 and RTX 3080 respectively. Mid-range models don’t offer much more than their less expensive counterparts when it comes to FPS (around 80 fps), but they do stand out in delivering more consistent frame times (a little bit lower than 60 ms). That makes them preferable when fluidity matters most such as multiplayer gaming or any scenario where fast reflexes might give

Major Memory

Madden NFL 22 is not that demanding. 8GB of RAM should be enough for it, but I never recommend getting a new laptop with less than 16GB of RAM. Why? Laptop with 8GB of RAM, it will get bottlenecked pretty quickly if you are running games or other high-performance applications in the background. So you should either get a laptop with more than 16GB of RAM or close everything down when playing Madden NFL 22.

The best thing about buying a laptop is that the memory is fairly simple to choose – just get one with enough memory, and that’s it! With 8GB being more than enough for Madden NFL 22, you can either get one with 16GB or more – this will ensure your system doesn’t bottleneck even if you are running games or other high-performance applications in the background – or close everything down when playing Madden NFL 22.
