Best Laptops for Kerbal Space Program 2 (2022)

That said, if we compare KSP2 to previous installments, one might have an impression that the game’s boring. And the only reason for that is the space industry feels so much different today than it did back then. Nevertheless, KSP2 keeps getting better and better. There is no doubt that this game will be alive for years to come. It’s an open sandbox – in terms of gameplay and modding support.

But whether it can run on your laptop or not is another question altogether. You need a somewhat decent processor, solid amount of RAM.

In this article, I’m going to talk about top-end laptops with the most powerful hardware that you can find on the market right now as well as budget options if you’re looking for an affordable way to enjoy KSP2 (with decent FPS).

Requirements for a Kerbal Space Program 2 laptop

I’ve made a point to make a list of video cards that will be suitable for playing Kerbal Space Program 2.

You’ll find 3 sections – bare minimum, recommend, and best – to choose from depending on your budget. The key takeaways are that we need at least medium level hardware and should be looking for GPUs with a high refresh rate.

Minimum graphics (under $1000)

If you’re on a tight budget, I recommend taking the following video cards into consideration: GTX 1660 Ti and Radeon RX 5600M. Both of these GPUs should be able to play Kerbal Space Program 2 on Low settings at 30 FPS. As a plus, both are not too demanding on your wallet either!

Recommended graphics ($1000 – $2000)

In this price range, I have some excellent recommendations for gaming Kerbal Space Program 2. GTX 1660 Ti has all the bells and whistles you’ll need for medium settings at 60 FPS and higher resolutions. If you can spend a little more and want even better performance, I recommend AMD Radeon RX 5600M which offers similar performance to the previous card but with Nvidia’s RTX technology for smoother visuals.

Lastly, RTX 2060 will provide a solid experience for high settings at 60 FPS with 1080p resolutions and above. RTX 2070 or RTX 2080 would also be suitable but they come with an additional price tag that may not fit your budget.

Best graphics ($2000+)

Finally, if you’re willing to spend upwards of $3000 or so on hardware, then you should consider these video cards: RTX 3060 (VR-ready), RTX 3070 (144Hz compatible), and RTX 3080 (240+ Hz compatible). These cards are more than capable of playing Kerbal Space Program 2 (and any other modern game) on Ultra settings at 60 FPS without any issues whatsoever!

When it comes to games, a powerful processor is an all-important aspect of gaming. From how smooth your gameplay is to how well your CPU handles the graphics, there are many reasons why you should invest in a good processor.


Kerbal Space Program 2 is a demanding game. If you’re playing at high settings and higher resolutions, then you’ll need a top-of-the-line CPU for best performance. To avoid lag and stuttering, I recommend getting an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7 for a laptop in the $1000+ range. And for laptops in the lower price range, I’d recommend either Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5.


I’ll have to break this down into two sections: expensive ($1000+) and less expensive (under $1000).

For more expensive laptops, I recommend getting either an Intel Core i7 or AMD Ryzen 7.

For less expensive laptops ($400-$800), I recommend either an Intel Core i5 or AMD Ryzen 5.

If you’re on a budget (under $400), then go with AMD Ryzen 3 or Intel Core i3.

Keep in mind that not all games are CPU intensive, so while Kerbal Space Program 2 is quite demanding, it’s not the only game out there that might need this much power from your CPU. Major Memory

As any other game, when it comes to RAM, Kerbal Space Program 2 is also pretty easy. The only concern you should have is making sure you’re not getting a laptop that skimped on memory, thus limiting performance or forcing you to upgrade within your warranty period.

Unlike a processor or a graphics card, selecting RAM is child’s play. That’s because it has the fewest distinct options. As a result, memory is one of the least complicated requirements to nail down. In our case, fixing the attention to the total amount of RAM is perfectly fine. Other metrics, such as DDR frequency and CAS latency, are not as important nor as configurable as they would be when building a desktop PC.

Minimum (8 GB)

I’m not sure how you can play Kerbal Space Program 2 with 8GB of RAM on your laptop. I suppose if you were really determined and had a big enough monitor – but don’t be surprised if the game crashes all the time and you’re left with little fun or space for anything else on your computer. But that’s my two cents. For others, it might work just fine.

Recommended (16 GB)

If 16GB is available for your budget – go for it! It’s an excellent sweet spot between what the game needs and what it’s safe to spend on RAM in 2019 – everything else can wait! Just make sure you’re getting 16GB of DDR4-2400MHz LPDDR3 type of memory; that way, you won’t have to worry about upgrading any time soon!
