Requirements for a Battlefield 2042 laptop

Major Deciding on a processor

processor chip

The processor is the heart of a gaming laptop. What I mean by that is – a high-end CPU will give you a better gaming experience, period. How do I know? I’ve been doing this for years and trust me, CPUs are an investment. And not just because they’re expensive, but because they’ll significantly improve your experience.

It’s important to consider all aspects of a laptop before you buy it and when it comes to gaming, CPU is almost as important as GPU.

If you want a great gaming experience and be competetive online in Battlefield 2042, you’ll need a high-end CPU as at least Intel Core i7. Although, according to published official system requirements, you should consider something even stronger than that – Core i9 or AMD equivalent. Remember – system requirements are almost always intended for desktop PCs and you should never expect that same CPU or GPU Desktop and Laptop (mobile) models will perform the same. That said, I did my best trying to find laptop equivalents.

Recommendations

What kind of laptop should you buy if you’re going to be playing Battlefield 2042? You’ll need an excellent processor that can handle demanding games such as BF2042 without issue – here are my recommendations:

  • i7-10750H for medium class gaming laptops
  • i9-11900H or Ryzen 9 5900HS if price is not a problem

If you have questions about how much money is appropriate to spend on your laptop, please refer to our chart at the end of this article. It has price ranges for all sorts of needs and budgets.

Major Deciding on a graphics card

Battlefield 2042 is one of the most demanding titles in the current AAA gaming roster. It might not come as a surprise, then, that your best bet for getting Battlefield 2042 running smoothly is to get a laptop with the high-end graphics card. But there’s more to it than that. To make an informed decision, I’ve decided to split my advice into 3 sections – bare minimum, recommend, and best graphics cards for playing Battlefield 2042. The last category should only be an option if you’re willing to spend at least $2000 on a laptop with beefy specs and hardware.

For the purpose of this article, we’ll say that GTX 1650 Ti is the bare minimum you need to get something like Battlefield 2042 running at an acceptable framerate (probably around 60 FPS on Low-end settings).

Minimum graphics

Let’s start with the bottom-rung of GPUs – integrated graphics. These virtually free graphics modules are baked right into a processor. Depending on a processor’s model, these modules can be borderline usable for playing games on the lowest settings. You should not expect to reach more than 30 FPS even after considerable compromises in visual settings. These are only an option if your budget desperately limits you.

A step above that, we find entry-level AMD and Nvidia dedicated graphics. These cards hold a clear advantage over integrated modules.

Recommended graphics

Here we have upper entry-level and lower mid-range graphics cards. In particular, I have in mind Nvidia’s GTX 1660 Ti, RTX 3050 Ti or RTX 3060 and AMD’s Radeon RX 5600M. With these bad boys, we can expect to go to around 60 FPS on Medium-ish settings. Not too shabby.

Best graphics

For those that can splurge on top-of-the-line components, I recommend ar least RTX 2070. If you are hardcore gamer or want to be competetive when gaming online – you need more thant that. Reaching professional grade FPS count is something you just won’t achieve without only the best of the best. For that I’d recommend going no less than RTX 3070 and perfectly – for RTX 3080.

TL;DR
  • Integrated graphics is just not an option
  • GTX 1650 Ti or RTX 3050 Ti is the minimum you need to get Battlefield 2024 running at an acceptable settings
  • RTX 3070 to RTX 3080 will deliver the smooth experience

Major Choosing a memory

RAM memory sticks

Battlefield 2042 doesn’t make RAM requirements any more unexceptional than any other modern AAA game. As the official system requirements state, 8 GB RAM is minimum and 16 GB RAM is recommended.

The best solution for all gaming laptops is to buy one with at least 16GB of RAM. That way you won’t have to worry about upgrading your laptop in the near future, or about multitasking or other applications while playing.

Minimum (8 GB)

Firstly, an 8 GB RAM laptop is even hard to find these days. And for a good reason – that’s just the bare minimum and as RAM is not actually than expensive compared to other gaming laptop components, you really shouldn’t risk it becoming your bottleneck. To add to that, upgrading laptop’s RAM is rarely that easy – empty RAM slots are very uncommon and you’d probably end up replacing original RAM sticks instead of adding new ones. In conclusion, I wouldn’t recomend buying an 8 GB laptop (even if you didn’t plan on gaming) unless the budget is very very strict.

Recommended and Best (16 GB and 32 GB)

Though, I’d lie if I’d said that 16 GB RAM is some kind of pinnacle. Don’t get me wrong – it has been the perfect amount for a gaming laptop for quite a while now. And honestly, it doesn’t look like things are going to change too much, at least in the near future. But if you’re planning on heavy gaming/streaming or using some kind of RAM hungry professional applications such as video rendering, 3D modeling software and what not, you should consider investing a little bit more and going for 32 GB.

TL;DR
  • Battlefield 2042 doesn’t make RAM requirements any more unexceptional than any other modern AAA game
  • 16 GB RAM is minimum and 16 GB RAM is recommended for gaming laptops, but 32 GB would be better if you want to multitask while playing, stream or use some kind of RAM hungry professional applications such as video rendering, 3D modeling software and what not.
